Lasso Up Partner - Devlog 2


Hey all, Lasso Up Partner is in full swing (pun not intended) of level design and implementation! As a bit of time to reminisce though, we'd like to take you all back to when we were in mechanics design mode, before any implementation started. Specifically, we'd like to go back and talk about the design of the lasso, and some of the different ideas we played around with.

Mainly we had two thoughts in mind for how the lasso implementation would work:

  1. The lasso would work like Spider-Man, where the length of the lasso to the hook would stay the same, and the player would swing around with the option to release at any time.
  2. The lasso would work like a grappling hook, where the player would be pulled towards hooks on the ceiling, and then dangle in-air before dropping.

We ended up going with Solution #2, as it also gave us the idea of flinging with the lasso, releasing mid-grapple would give you a boost of in-air speed to get different areas of levels quickly.
